Sozopol - Ropotamo River

Discover the ancient and romantic Sozopol, famous for its Old Town with cobbled streets, wooden houses and old churches, admire the wild nature and life while taking a motor-boat cruise along the enchanting Ropotamo River, enjoy a small walk in Bourgas with great shopping opportunities.

Ancient, romantic, charming, picturesque – all these labels illustrate but not fully describe the maritime town of Sozopol. The mainland of the town is surrounded by three islands. Sozopol has been inhabited since ancient times. Originally founded as the Greek colony of Apollonia, the town has preserved traces from the succeeding civilizations – Roman, Byzantine, Turkish and Bulgarian. The Old Town is a charming labyrinth of cobbled streets lined by wooden houses, old churches, modern cafes and traditional restaurants. Artisans and craftsmen dominate the pedestrian areas offering an abundance of souvenirs and memorabilia.

Ropotamo River is one of the shortest but most captivating rivers in Bulgaria. The river estuary has been declared a Nature Reserve and tourist visits are limited within strict areas. The ideal way to discover the loveliness of the river and its banks is by a motor-boat cruise. The river waters and the jungle-like surroundings hide rare species of birds, water snakes, turtles, otters, foxes, jackals and wild boar.

Bourgas is one of the major cities and passenger ports on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. The central part of the city is famous for its distinctive 19-century Italian style architecture. Several East-Orthodox churches, museums and art galleries add to the historical and artistic atmosphere. The city is the venue of regular theme displays and music events. Lovely shadowed by lime and horse chestnut trees and refreshed by the breeze, the Maritime Garden and the pedestrian area provide the perfect set for a lazy day drink or shopping raid in the cozy small shops downtown. Numerous fashionable trademarks have their lustrous shops in the several shopping malls.
